Reflection on the ETECH Lesson Plan

The lesson plan went well.  It actually went better than I had expected.  The students were drawn in by the idea of challenging the other students in a competition.  There were some problems though, in that the students got bored after a while, because there were only two functioning computers in the classroom and they had to wait on other students to type up their individual word problems.  So I made the mistake in not giving them an activity to do while they waited. Some of the students also forgot their number that was issued to them when they were done.  It was a positive activity but the lack of computers was a problem.  I do like the idea of google docs, but am concerned about it's capability of fun when it comes to the lack of computers.  I believe only privileged schools could benefit more in this.

Pre-ETECH Lesson

So for my lesson plan incorporating technology, I decided to have the students make math word problems invovling multiplication or division.  In this the students will play a game called "Stump The Class" with my peer Haley and her classroom.  In this we will have competition between each other.  Also the students will learn how to problem solve on their own, create a word problem and understand word problems more and learn keyboarding skills on the computer.

Google Docs

I think google docs seem like a great program, I don't really know too much about it yet, but it seems exciting and progressive for the future of learners.  I'm not too sure that the younger grade levels will be able to do much with them.

Voice Threads

About a week ago we are learning about voice threads in the classroom.  The thing with voice threads is that anyone can put a voice message on the internet.  I think it's another good way for students to practice their vocal and speech skills.  I say this because the students can edit and reedit their speech until they have a product that they agree with and can then post it on the web.  It's like when someone practices a speech that they are going to read to the class tomorrow.

TIE Plan

HOTS

Blogs are a great way for the students to have reinforcement in the subject area they are learning about.  Blogging will create a system where the students can converse between one another, peer edit and give comments and opinions about each others work.  The students will then be able to build up knowledge from another and grow in what they perform rather than just applaud each other and move on to the next subject.  In other words the students will be exercising their brain in this process.
